Mentoring Program
Over the past few years, our Firm has received a number of inquiries about one-on-one mentoring and coaching for Corporate Counsels, Human Resource Directors and other key managerial staff operating in a Union environment.
Bruce Lillie's experience, accumulated over 44 years working with unions and management, enables him to provide unique and highly customized mentoring services to those who are new to labor relations, at an organization with a difficult labor-management relationship, or have a complicated content-related situation. The coaching Bruce provides is multi-layered, as it draws from positions held on all sides on the labor conversation. These positions include:
- Management Attorney and Representative (1992- Present)
- Professional Instructor, including Michigan State University HRETC certification program.
- Arbitrator (1997 – Present)
- Union Business Agent (1977 – 1989)
- Union Steward (1974-1977)
The personal mentoring interaction may include legal advice or counseling, but the emphasis is on exploring various approaches for managing in a Union environment through in-person meetings, in-depth coaching about the Union culture and how it operates, a review of the collective bargaining agreement and current labor-management environment, grievance training, the rights and responsibilities of each party, and exploring the possibilities and natural limits of the labor-management relationship under the National Labor Relations Act and related Public Sector labor laws.
